Bolzano – Giving birth is terrible and what follows is not rosy either. No place for trivialization and taboos. Bring on the facts about being a woman when it comes to having children.
Stories about "normalized taboos" around the birth and the first year of the child's life are collected for the awareness-raising campaign Mother's Night.
It is not normal that fathers are only allowed to accompany their partner giving birth from the delivery room and have to leave the hospital immediately after the birth. It is not normal for pregnant women to place their well-being entirely in the hands of a doctor and no longer trust their own body feeling. Moms and dads don't have to deal with crying babies alone for months. There is help. And there are many prejudices and social attributions surrounding birth and parenthood. Even if many things are considered normal, it doesn't have to stay that way - especially not when parents experience such situations as moments of loneliness and being alone.
For the eighth time this May, the Rittner education center House of the Family is organizing the awareness campaign Mother Night in cooperation with 25 South Tyrolean organizations. Challenging topics related to parenthood have been highlighted for eight years. This year, the theme "Mutterseelenalone" is about challenges around birth and in the first year of the child's life. For this purpose, stories and field reports will be collected by Friday, March 11, 2022, anonymously if desired. The result is a book that will be presented as part of the Mother's Night campaign in May.
