Quiet or even fan-free NAS in the style of a set-top box have a long tradition with the Silent-Nah series at QNAP.At CES 2022, the manufacturer has now officially announced a new model with the HS-264 that has been haunted by the rumor mill for months.

2 × HDMI and 2 × 2.5 GBE
The fanless NAS is intended to serve as a multimedia center in the living room and sets two HDMI outputs that can output the 4K resolution at a maximum.According to previous knowledge, these are HDMI 2.0 outputs, so that a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz is supported.There are also two connections for the network connection, both of which support up to 2.5 GBit/s-the 10 GBE of the also fan-free HS-453DX is therefore not offered in this model.
No quiet M.2 SSDs
The HS-264 of the HS-251+ and HS-251 (test) is also more similar in the potential drives than the HS-453DX, because only two inserts are offered for 3.5-inch SATA drives, no M.2 slots.The NAS is therefore not completely silent when using HDDs, but 2.5-inch SATA SSDS can also be used without any problems.
Intel Celeron N5105 with 8 GB RAM
An N5105 also serves as the main processor in the HS-264, which is also used in the newly presented Thunderbolt-4-Nah TS-464T4.This offers four kernels with four threads with a base clock of 2.0 GHz and a turbo clock of 2.90 GHz.The TDP is 10 watts, which is passive the HS-264.The CPU should be at 8 gigabytes of RAM.It is not yet known whether QNAP will offer different configurations.
USB also with 10 Gbit/s
In addition to two USB 3.0 connections according to USB 3.2 Gen 1 with 5 GB/s, two connections according to USB 3.2 gene 2 to 10 GB/s should also deliver.The HS-264 measures 41.3 × 302 × 220 mm, the power supply delivers 60 watts.
The software offers in QTS should provide multimedia entertainment.These include Qumagie, Video Station, Music Station and the Plex Media Server.
No price, no appointment, no picture
QNAP has not yet mentioned an award and appointment for the HS-264.Even a picture of the NAS was not published, but it can be assumed that not much changes in the design compared to the HS-251+ shown above.
