In "The Biggest Loser – Family Power Couples" eight parent-child duos fight against obesity. On Monday, October 4, 2021, the final will decide which family couple gave the most and wins the race. For camp boss Dr. For Christine Theiss, 41, the format is an affair of the heart. As a mother, she knows how important it is for parents to set a good example and take their children by the hand.
"The Biggest Loser – Family Power Couples": Dr. Christine Theiss on her five-year-old daughter's diet

Gala: Your daughter is now five years old. Have you already taught her some things that relate to nutrition?
Dr. Christine Theiss: You don't really have to convey anything to the children, you just set an example. I have always lived a healthy diet and our daughter wanted to join in from an early age and help me with cooking and in the kitchen. Unfortunately, parents often prevent this - with a whirling child it usually takes longer and becomes more chaotic. We simply have to allow them: children bring this curiosity with them of their own accord.
Our child has never been fed formula. I breastfed and later prepared the supplementary food myself. This alone gives the children a different feeling and different taste. For example, our daughter loves scampi and fish – not in nugget form, but fresh! I think that's great.
Doesn't the problem often lie in the ignorance of the parents, who simply don't know enough about nutrition themselves?
Yes, I agree with you 100 percent. That's really a problem too. The parents themselves often don't know how to do it properly, so how should the children know? I notice that with our daughter, who already understands that sweets are only good in moderation. She cooks at the age of five because she really enjoys it.
We're talking about so much responsibility here: But you clearly have to take the school into consideration. Nutrition plays no role at all there, which is absolutely fatal. It is so crucial that children are informed there too. But unfortunately the topic doesn't get any space there.
How much can viewers learn from "The Biggest Loser – Family Power Couples"? How important is the work not only for the duos, but also for the people in front of the TV?
I keep noticing how much the show motivates people outside of the camp. Just through the numerous applications, but also through e-mails and letters from people who send me before and after photos of their weight loss success because "The Biggest Loser" motivated them.
"The Biggest Loser" isn't a weight loss guide, but it's a nudge! An impetus that you can do it yourself and find the motivation. In my opinion, this is also due to the fact that we don't raise this format with celebrities, but with ordinary people from next door, with whom everyone can identify. And we don't want to signal that you shouldn't be like that. Instead, if you are dissatisfied, we are ready and willing to help.
Has "The Biggest Loser" changed you too?
Of course, "The Biggest Loser" changed me. I think I used to have prejudices too: that overweight people are lazy. But it's not that simple. It is an addiction and must be viewed as a disease. The candidates are in a situation from which they themselves can hardly get out. I have become much more forgiving in this regard. When I see a severely overweight person, I ask myself what's behind it today.
Whereas I've become more intolerant of one situation: And that's parents of overweight toddlers. I have to say it so harshly, but that's assault in my eyes. Because these children have no chance of a normal life and always have to fight. Because even if you lose weight, the body always wants to go back to its original dimensions. A three-year-old cannot shop and cook alone. This is clearly the responsibility of the parents!
"The Biggest Loser – Family Power Couples": You can see the grand finale on Monday, October 4th at 10:15 p.m. on Sat.1.
