Eco-test solid soap: how good are Alverde, Palmolive, Dove and Co.?

Solid soap does not need a plastic dispenser and cleans just as well. But how compatible is it? Eco-Test has examined 40 pieces of soap for its ingredients-including brands such as Alverde, Palmolive and share. The results are available free of charge.

The last few months have clearly shown how important hand washing is. In addition to thoroughness and time, of course, the right soap is needed. Solid hand soap has many advantages over water-based: it is often cheaper, does not need plastic packaging and, according to the eco-test, rarely contains problem substances-with some exceptions.

As part of their soap test, the consumer protectors examined 40 pieces of soap inside and found a large part to be "very good" as well as "good". However, all other grades have also been awarded-because some products contain environmentally harmful, allergy-causing or reproductive harmful ingredients. One of these proven problems will soon be banned throughout the EU.

Soap for eco-testing: not only radiant performanc

Overall, solid soap seems to be a good choice. 16 out of 40 tested products have cut off with & quot; very good & quot; in the soap test, including the & quot; vegetable oil soap organic verveine & quot; from natural cosmetics brand Alverde (for 0.75 euros per 100 grams). A total of nine out of twelve natural cosmetics brands received a "very good" or "good".

But conventional products have also achieved considerable grades in the test. With & quot; good & quot;, for example, Dove & APOs; s & quot; beauty cream Bar & quot; cuts off (0.65 euros per 100 grams)-together with 13 other products. Here there is only deduction for contained phosphonate, a hard-to-degradable complexing agent, from which sewage treatment plants are difficult to filter out of waste water.

Problematic fragrances in Palmolive and Co.

Fragrances do not contribute to the cleaning effect of a soap. Nevertheless, almost all of the soaps tested by Öko-Test are perfumed. The odours, which we accept naturally, can have disadvantages-eco-test classifies many of the fragrances used as problematic.

The palmolive product, which is considered to be "insufficient", contains several substances of concern, namely artificially produced musk fragrances (such as Galaxolis or Cashmeran) and Lilial.

Other soaps contain cinnamal or isoeugenol. According to the test report, the substances are potent allergens.

Not only the price: what you should pay attention to when buying soap

In natural cosmetics, synthetically produced substances such as lilial and artificial musk scent are not allowed. Nevertheless, the testers have: inside the two substances have proven in a product with natural cosmetic certificate. The provider has shown itself to be ignorant of eco-testing-the perfume of its German manufacturer does not actually contain these substances-and wants to have its raw materials examined.

With the exception of this case, sustainable products perform well in the solid soap test. Among the test winners, for example, is the natural cosmetics brand Dr. Bronner (pure natural soap all-one lavender for 4.25 euros per 100 g). The soap from the social start-up share (no natural cosmetics-1.95 euros per 100 grams) has also received the top grade-but this also applies to many conventional products, such as the "CD mild Soap avocado" (0.55 euros per 100 grams). So it doesn & APOs; t matter with soap when you reach for the cheaper product?
