The best make-up tips over 60 - how to use make-up, concealer and other basics correctly

Behind the heading "make-up tips for over 60" there is no catalog of rigid rules - make-up and beauty know no age - rather this is a compilation of recommendations from make-up artists: inside, such as foundation, concealer and others Basics are best used and make-up rituals adapted accordingly when the skin has lost its elasticity and suppleness.

Make-up tips from 60: How to get a naturally radiant look

1. Little makeup (and no foundation for the eye contour)

Less is more. This is even more true when using foundation. As Maybelline New York makeup artist Gato explains, it's best to "use very little foundation, always the same shade as your skin tone and spread evenly around your face, which changes over the years "to equalize". On the other hand, you should completely avoid using foundation around the eyes.

2. Concealer for the eye area only

Not applying foundation to the eye area doesn't mean leaving that area bare of makeup, it just means using a touch of concealer instead, Gato points out. However, it is only applied in the area where dark circles are visible, i.e. usually below the tear duct, "so that the outer half of the contours and the crow's feet, which tend to form wrinkles, are left out".

3. Moisturizing Foundation

Although one should opt for foundations that contain hyaluronic acid and other moisturizing agents in the first place, there is one infallible trick to making any foundation moisturizing: Mix your usual moisturizer or moisturizer into the foundation . Make-up artist Noemí Nohales explains: "There are also water-based foundations, which are best for this type of skin because we want to achieve luminosity and softness."

4. Conceal skin imperfections

From the age of 60, an uneven skin tone and even skin imperfections are no longer uncommon, especially if you have been in the sun too much throughout your life. It's not about covering these up with thick layers of makeup, but trying to even them out naturally. Gato recommends applying a thin layer of foundation all over your face, and then applying a touch of good-coverage concealer to just the imperfections of your skin. "To do this, dab it on with your finger without pulling on the skin," explains the expert.

5. Mattify properly

If you prefer a more matte complexion, apply a touch of mattifying powder only to specific areas such as the nostrils, chin and nasolabial fold, leaving the rest of the skin fresh and natural. "Controlling the shine in the nasolabial fold is useful because reflections in that area make it appear even more pronounced," Gato explains.

6. Fuller eyebrows look fresher

It is normal for eyebrows to become less dense with age. And that they tend to sag a bit. That's why full and tightened eyebrows are a way to rejuvenate the look. To achieve this, Gato advises using a lighter pencil than the natural color of the eyebrows so the look isn't too harsh. "The goal is to make her look a little fuller, but not overly made-up."

7. Blush: Color and Placement

For the blush, Nohales advises applying it to the top of the cheekbones in upward strokes towards the temple and blending it in heavily for an extra natural look. Tones should preferably be fresh and vibrant, Gato points out.

8. Eye make-up

For eye make-up, Gato advises using cream eyeshadow as a base and then powder shadow to finish off the eye make-up. "Avoid eyeshadow that's completely matte or very glittery all over the lid. In both cases, you're more likely to show your years. Satin shadows are better, for example to set highlights in the middle of the eyelid. And matte shadows to define the curve of the eyelid and the outer corner of the eye," he explains.

9. Khol pencil to thicken lashes

As lashes fall out and become thinner with age, Gato recommends using a black or dark brown Khol pencil right at the base to define the shape, the effect of the mascara amplify them and make them appear optically denser.

10. Makeup tips for the lips

For Noemí Nohales, earth tones or neutral pink tones are infallible from 60: "I also find that reddish tones are very flattering, especially in a matte finish, which redefines the lips and complements the woman's personality fits," she emphasizes.

11. Matte or semi-transparent lipsticks

As for the finish of the lipstick, hydrating, semi-transparent variants are preferable to avoid chapping the lips or showing fine lines, Gato points out. However, if these are very pale and lack proper contour, you can lightly trace your natural lip shape and then apply a long-wearing matte lipstick in the exact shade of the lip liner.
