Free TV station renamed: RTLplus is now called RTLup

"RTLplus" has been given a new name. The niche channel launched on free TV in June 2016, which is primarily aimed at female viewers aged 45 and over, was renamed “RTLup” as part of the comprehensive and cross-platform bundling of forces under the RTL brand.

According to RTL, the free-to-air TV broadcaster recently set new records and is now one of the largest of the small TV broadcasters in Germany. Analogous to the naming of VOXup, the two special interest channels operate as a clearly recognizable up-line of RTL and VOX. With the renaming, which has been on air since September 15, the station shines in a new but familiar light in the RTL brand cosmos.

The health show "How are you?", which starts in September, is of central importance for the strategy outlined. In the new show, presenter Katja Burkard, together with experts, wants to help answer all the questions and topics that concern millions of Germans about health and prevention - competently and responsibly. While the channel's focus has so far been primarily on entertainment, "How are you?" will also open up the service area for RTLup and thus make the offer more diverse.

In addition to NITRO and VOXup, RTLup ideally complements the existing offers of RTL Deutschland as a linear channel and efficiently serves the viewer segment of 14 to 59 year olds with the core target group of women over 40 years of age. In this target group, RTLup was able to report a record monthly market share of 3.2%. But with the total audience (3+), RTLup was stronger than ever with 2.2% in July.

The renaming of the station, which was announced in the spring, is a logical step against the background of strengthening the RTL brand as Europe's leading entertainment brand and harmonizing the brand architecture. The SVOD service TVNOW will be repositioned later this year under the name RTL+.
