cone, pump...

The baby is suckling peacefully and contentedly on mum's breast... not at all! Breastfeeding is often anything but easy and poses a great challenge for both mother and child. But fortunately there are some tools that can help if sucking doesn't work or the nipples hurt. STYLEBOOK introduces them.

nursing pillow
Create relaxation for mom and baby - an important prerequisite for breastfeeding to work. A breastfeeding pillow that you can crumple to your very own breastfeeding position can help. The special pillows are available in different sizes and designs - they can be up to 1.90 meters long, but for some women a simple pillow in the shape of a croissant is enough as a neck support. Costs: depending on size and material or filling between 40 and 90 euros.

Sore cream when breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is good for both mother and baby, but under certain circumstances it can cause enormous problems for the nipples. Once they have been sucked sore, a cream containing lanolin can help. Lanolin is obtained from sheep's wool (beware of those who are allergic to it!). When choosing a wound cream, you should generally make sure that it is also well tolerated by the baby and does not have to be washed off before breastfeeding.

Laser nipple
If the nipples are extremely sore and painful, low-level laser therapy may be an option. Don't worry: In contrast to surgical lasers (for removing birthmarks, etc.), no heat is generated with this laser therapy and no tissue is destroyed either. Instead, the treatment is intended to stimulate cell metabolism and thus boost wound healing. Many midwives offer the low-level laser therapy themselves, the cost of this can be between 10 and 20 euros per treatment, depending on the duration. Anyone who wants to buy such a laser themselves (from 110 euros) should definitely be shown beforehand how to use it properly.
