Now the judiciary is also dealing with the anti-Semitism scandal surrounding Gil Ofarim (39) and the Leipzig Hotel Westin. As a spokesman for the Leipzig police RTL confirms, the singer is being investigated, among other things. The hotel employee concerned reported defamation to Ofarim, says the police spokesman: "In terms of content, the descriptions differ from what the musician says in his video."
In addition, the police have received a report of threats. However, this is not directed against the musician, but against numerous social media users. The police will investigate the case closely in the coming days. The first measures, such as witness interviews, had therefore already taken place.
What happened?
According to Gil Ofarim, he was not allowed to check in at the Leipzig hotel because he was wearing a Star of David openly on a chain when he was waiting at the reception. There was initially a long line due to a technical defect, but guests were always served in front of him. In an Instagram video, he reported in front of the hotel about the events that then happened.
After a long wait, he complained to the staff. The Receptionist, from Ofarim "Herr W." called, initially claimed to want to straighten the snake with it. "And then someone from the corner calls out, 'Pack up your star.' And then Herr W. says: 'Pack your star.'" The 39-year-old reported that he would only be able to check in if he took it off. At the end of the clip he was close to tears. "Really? Germany 2021," he said in conclusion.
After Ofarim's video went viral within a very short time, a wave of solidarity rolled through the country. Most commentators, from politics, the public and the people, are stunned by the events. In the evening there was a spontaneous demonstration in front of the Leipzig hotel.
