Is playboy bunny Emilija just a calculating "bitch"? The first DSDS live show was an up and down of feelings. Freezing cold between the jurors, fluttering nerves among the candidates. Read here for whom it's already over after show number one!
"Because of you, I'm doing something like DSDS, you're a mega talent," says Mousse T. to 16-year-old Marie, who proved with her Marianne Rosenberg performance "that she can win the thing."
After many castings and a number of recalls, the time has now come: The first theme show is coming up; the hall in Cologne-Ossendorf is packed to the brim, and of course each candidate has their own fan block. The top 10 now look a bit different: great clothes, professional make-up. The style consultant has done a great job of making even the nondescript boy next door look like a "boy band member".

Because, according to the common cliché, girls love boys who can adore them - poster boys who don't offend and who sing pleasing little songs with love messages. Michael makes the start. The tiler, who performs a yodel song by Andreas Gabalier, was pimped up in a bravoaffinity and received words of praise from the jury. After two minutes at the latest you have already forgotten your performance.
Everything is nice, "nice" and pleasing
It's the same with the "singing taxi driver" Isa, who sings wonderfully, but nobody on the jury apart from him Poptitan tells him that the number was nice, but nothing more. Lukas is also a Mr. Nice Guy and a "pleasant fellow". "The small, subtle difference" to his opponents: "His speech impediment has become his trademark." On stage, the boy scout with the high recognition value really hits the spot - just like Giulio, "the nice one from the hardware store", who sings "What is love" by Haddaway.
Somehow, the first theme show has the worm in it. Maybe it's the big stage or the understandable excitement of the candidates, but maybe it's the freezing cold that prevails between the judges and which becomes more and more obvious as the show progresses. They are definitely not friends! Dieter doesn't look at his colleagues and often has a different opinion. His whole body language suggests: For me you are whistles who have no idea about music.
"DSDS is a sympathy competition"
And indeed: what the pop titan says comes true when "sex bomb" Emilija appears. The woman "just does her thing" and doesn't care about her haters. She has stripped naked for Playboy and "loves to show off her body and play with her charms". She provokes, she polarizes and is also "the porn queen" for her comrades-in-arms.

And although the three members of the jury celebrate them beyond measure for their "hot" and "tight" Katchi stage show, Dieter says: "DSDS is a sympathy competition." He speaks directly to Emilija's bombshell image. "How is that supposed to be received? People throw up, to put it in plain English! Your performance was good, you wanted to be known, you achieved that. But I think you're going to get kicked out today. That's clear as dumpling broth!"
"Being fat doesn't mean being ugly"
But there are also powerful women like Janina, who the audience loves. She also talks about her body; it almost seems that women, no matter what their stature, always think they have to talk about their bodies. In the clips, which are shown in advance about each of the candidates, Janina is shown eating sandwiches with her boyfriend. Apparently it's not possible to only show the 30-year-old in the circle of the children she looks after - her body has to be made the subject.

The woman with the "powerful voice", who "is like a mother" for the candidates, justifies her appearance: "Being fat is not ugly. I'd rather be fit than necessarily slim, yes, lose a little weight I already have it." She incorporates a few of her own phrasings into her Gloria Gaynor song, giving Caro goosebumps in particular.
It's nice when candidates like Mia or Michel have an "innate stage presence" and "cut exactly the right notch" - but in the end, at least it feels like it's more about the outfits and the hot or not so hot looks of the women . Mia's trousers are "flood trousers": too glittery, too short, not pretty enough. Janina apologizes for not wearing high heels "because they look so ugly on me," and Emilija is not wearing a skirt, dress, or pants.
The tiger – the bitch
It's these encrusted views that get on your nerves. A woman like Emilija, who undresses for "Playboy", is in the minds of many, including her comrades-in-arms, "a bitch" per se. Audiences don't like her because she's "not cute", not shy and huggable like Marie. You can't do "tutti tutti" with the "Tiger", the tiger will eat you up first. That's why the cat of prey has to leave the field next to "Latin Boy" Isa after the first show.

So Dieter was right. "If you have such a straight style (like Emilija, ed.), then you have to have something on the box." Or be sympathetic to people. "You'll go your way, a lot of TV people will call you for all sorts of things, there's a lot of formats, jungle and stuff like that."
